The Women’s World Chess Championship between the reigning champion Yifan Hou (China) and the challenger winner of the Grand Prix series Humpy Koneru (India) will take place in Tirana, 14 to 30 November, 2011. (right after the European Team Chess Championship and coinciding with Tal Memorial 2011)

The championship, sponsored by Taci Oil, has a prize fund of 200 000 eur. Head of the organizing committee is Mr Rezat Taci, CEO of Taci Oil.

The 2011 venue was announced parallel to the announcement of Moscow as the host of Anand – Gelfand match. The Women’s World Chess Championship Match 2011 will consist of 10 games and if necessary, tie-break games. The draw for colors will be conducted during the opening ceremony. The time control for each game will be: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. The colors will be reversed after game 4. (The player getting the white color in game 1 will play game 5 with the black color). The winner of the event is declared Women’s World Champion for the period 2011-2012.
