Contract signing for Armenia Women’s Grand Prix
Monday, 23 November 2009 12:28
On Friday November 20, 2009, the Vice President of the Chess Federation of Armenia, GM Smbat Lputian together with Geoffrey Borg, President of Global Chess and Commercial Director of FIDE, signed the contract for Armenia to host a leg in the current cycle of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix. The event will be held in the scenic town of Jermuk, Armenia from June 23 – July 5, 2010. This is the same locale which successfully hosted the 5th Men’s Grand Prix event in the summer of 2009. Incidentally, IMs Elina Danielian and Lilit Mkrtchian represent Armenia in the Grand Prix.
The signing of the contract took place at the brand new headquarters of the Chess Academy of Armenia, a spacious, newly renovated building in the center of Yerevan. The Academy is perfectly outfitted to host all kinds of chess events: it is home to over a dozen classrooms, several administrative offices, one small and one large auditorium (the large auditorium can seat 200 chess games simultaneously), a kitchen and cafeteria, and about two dozen rooms for lodging, each comfortably and tastefully furnished. The already active Armenian federation is all the more ready to host events with this added infrastructure now built and in use, and we look forward to even more events being held in the chess-loving country of Armenia.

Why not a woman cutting the ribbon for the women’s grand prix?
“Why not a woman cutting the ribbon for the women’s grand prix?”
You are probably one of those who thinks that in subsequent tournaments Carlsen always wore that red dragon suit that he got in Nanjing.
Think (wo)man, think!
Aronian once said women can’t play chess.
Because i think there is no woman member in Chess Federation of Armenia. That could be reason woman is not cutting the ribbon 🙂 and President of Global Chess and Commercial Director of FIDE, signed the contract for Armenia to host in the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix.
“You are probably one of those who thinks that in subsequent tournaments Carlsen always wore that red dragon suit that he got in Nanjing.”
You are probably one of those that do not explain very well they mean.
You are probably one of those who are not smart enough to understand.
The photo is from the inauguration ceremony of the new building of the Chess Academy of Armenia.
Quite naturally, Levon Aronian (the highest ranked armenian chessplayer) and Samvel Ter Sahakian (the most promissing young armenian GM, 15 years old and European Champion under-18) are cutting the ribbon.
The contract was signed in the new building, the same day. Look at the complete coverage, with more photos at FIDE’s web site.
How is Women’s Grand Prix related to Women’s World Championship? Is the winner of series playing against Kosteniuk?
Lev is a credit to chess.
