Wins for Azerbaijan in European chess championship

Azerbaijani chess player Zeynab Mammadyarova has beaten Armenian Anahit Kharatyan in the fifth round of the European chess championship in Rijeka.
The win took Zeynab to 118th with two points. She is lagging behind her fellow Azerbaijani competitors Gulnar Mammadova (73rd), Turkan Mammadyarova (85th) and Khayala Isgandarova (92nd).
A total of 158 players are competing in the women’s championship.
Rauf Mammadov is still doing best out of Azerbaijan’s men. He drew with Nikita Mayorov of Belarus in the fifth round and is now in 18th place with four points. The leaders have 4.5 points.Eltaj Safarli and Nijat Mammadov, who have 3.5 points, lie 61st and 83rd out of the 408 male competitors.
Azerbaijan’s other contestants are lower down in the rankings.
