Louise T Blouin MacBain is CEO and President of LTB Group of Companies – a global media business with a commitment to the arts and culture. Group publications include Art + Auction, Modern Painters and Culture and Travel and the Group produces around 50 magazines and 130 titles in total each year. The company began with just three magazines, and as the driver of the strategic development of the business, Mrs. MacBain launched 60 magazines and built an international business with more than 400 publications (9 million readers per week) and 60 internet sites in 20 countries. By 2003, combined print and internet sales reached over $540 million per year.
In 1998 Trader launched its Internet site, to expand its business model into different categories, including the inventory of art galleries. Trader listed on NASDAQ and Paris’ Premier Marché in March 2000.
Louise Blouin MacBain, Harvard Business School OPM, was at 22 involved with a leading Canadian museum in fundraising, events and memberships. She began collecting art 15 years ago and, as part of Trader’s strategy, acquired Rossini auction house prior to bidding to buy de Pury & Luxembourg in 2000. As CEO of Phillips, de Pury & Luxembourg, she reduced the losses of the auction house from $200 million to $25 million before resigning her position December 2002.
Mrs. MacBain is also the Chairman and Founder of the Louise T Blouin Foundation. The Foundation reflects Mrs MacBain’s hopes and dreams through its work across the world to promote culture and creativity and their role in making societies stronger. Recent Foundation projects include an investment in cultural exchange projects between China, the Middle East and the West, an OECD research initiative measuring cultural investment across the world and the development of an Institute in Notting Hill, London.
Previous to setting up the LTB Group, she co-founded Trader Classified Media. Over 15 years as Chairman and Operational CEO she turned around a business with more than 400 publications (9 million readers per week) 80 companies and, with her management team, led over 5,000 employees and 60 internet sites in 20 countries. She relinquished her interest in Trader to develop the LTB Group. She holds a number of memberships in international business and art organisations, including:

Actually, the real brain behind Trader.com was her husband, not even mentioned here as co-CEO. Louise Blouin left in 2000 and didn’t have a hand in the business post-IPO. Her track record in running businesses since is patchy. The whole foundation is a vehicle for her own stardom. I doubt it has benefited anyone in any measurable manner.
