rh7 check seems to work…white has no time to screw around and must keep on the pressure…Black I don’t think ca run away….
1. Ne8+ Kg8
(if 1…Bxe8 or Rxe8, 2. Qf6+ K any, 3. Rh8#)
2. Rh8+ Kxh8
3. Qf6+ K any
4. Qg7#
No. Ne8+, then Kf8 not Kg8. The first move is Rh7+
followed by N+, R+, Q++
I think the white moves are:
1. Rh7+
2. Nd7+
3. Rh8+
4. Qf6#
But what about
1. Ne8+ Kf8
2. Rh8+ Ke7
?
maybe
3. Qf6+ Kd7
4. Qxf7+ Kc8
5. Nd6+ Kb8
6. Rxd8#
but this requires two more moves.
regards
To 心魔 ,
Ne8 Kf8 (nobody will play Kg8, everyone wants to escape their king to the queenside)
Rh8+ Ke7
Qf6+ Kd7 and black escapes. Dont forget that Black is also threatening Qxb2.
To Anonymous,
Dont simply claim that Rh7 will work. Where is your analysis?
Rh7+ Kf8 (forced)
Nd7+ Rxd7 (doesnt matter which rook)
Rh8+ Kg7/Ke7
Qf6 checkmate.
Rh7+ Kf8
Nd7+ Ke7
Qxf7 checkmate
I think:
1. Rh7+ Kf8
2. Nd7+ Bxd8 or either Rxd8
3. Rh8+ Ke7 or Kg7
4. Qf6#
if
2. … Ke8, Ke7, or Kg8
3. Qxf7#
Ne8+ doesn’t work because of:
1. Ne8+ Kf8
2. Rh8+ Ke7
3. Qf6+ Kd7 now lets the black king escape (black is forced to block the escape route with his own piece in the line I give above)
First I fell for 1. Ne8+?, too. 1. -, Kf8! saves black. 2. ?, e.g. 2. Rh8+, Ke7 3.?
1. Rh7+ is right, I think but not the decicive move to find here.
1. -, Kf8 and now 2. Nd7+!! As any king move is answered by 3. Qxf7 2. -, Rxd7 (any of them) is forced giving white time to play 3. Rh8+. Kg7/Ke7 4. Qf6#
If I am not wrong this is in deed easier than the mate in 17. 🙂
If 1.Ne8+ then 1.-Kf8 and there is no mate in 4.
1.Rh7+ Kf8 2.Nd7+ and now
if Black captures the knight, then 3.Rh8+ any king move 4.Qf6++
if Black moves the king, then 3.Qxf7++
1.Ne8 doesn’t work because of Kf8 and the king escapes.
1.Rh7+ Kf8
2.Nd7+ Raxd7 or Rdxd7 (otherwise Qxf7#)
3.Rh8+ any
4.Qf6#
12:17:00 AM CDT –>
It doeasn’t work if after 1. Ne8+ Black will play 1. … Kf8.
1. Rh7+ Kf8
2. Nd7+ Rxd7
3. Rh8+ Ke7 (or Kg7)
4. Qf6#.
1.Ne8+? Kf8
2.Rh8+ Ke7
3.Qf6+ Kd7 and no mate
1.Rd7+ Kf8
2.Nd7+ Rxd7 (..Ke8/e7 3.Qxf7#)
3.Rh8+ Ke7
4.Qf6#
Tobe
1. Ne8+ didn´t work: 1…Kf8 2. Rh8+ Ke7 3. Qf6 + Kd7 and no mate.
Right is:
1. Rh7+ Kf8 2. Nd7+ B/R/R x d7 3. Rh8+ and 4. Qf6 mate
