Karjakin.
By rights, Volotkin and Mamedyarov should also be included in the list.
I agree, Karjakin has a great deal of potential, but Carlsen also has a great future in chess. They are the two that Kasparov named as his likely successors when he retired, also. I think we are going to see a lot of exciting tussles between them in the future — made all the more so by the fact that they are very different personalities.
I think Carlsen and Karjakin have the best shot. The least would be Nakamura. His unwillingness to be coached and his obnoxious personality will hurt him.
6. Someone else.
That someone else is me. Hey, it may never happen but I dream big 🙂
“His unwillingness to be coached and his obnoxious personality will hurt him.”
Hmmm…worked for Bobby Fischer…….
Besides, I like a man with style and chutzpah.
I think carlsen will make it.
I think Nakamura will drop out of chess. my opinion is that he is not happy with chess as a life long career. I hope I am wrong here. I think he will be very successful in whatever he decides to choose as his life profession.
it depends on what the championship will evolve into. will it remain as a 3 year champ match then it is too hard for the others. if it becomes a yearly winner then they all have excellent chances to win at least once.
Carlsen. Followed by Karjakin.
Nakamura has no chance if he plays 1.e4 e5 2.Qh5 !
I once said this to my friend, and his answer was “it might work ! if he plays this against, say, Topalov, the later will laugh so hard that he will fall sick and forfeit the game. Naka will thus be the winner !”
1. Harikrishna
2. Radjabov
3. Carlsen
4. Nakamura
5. Karjakin
These are all very talented young players, but I think the most talented to be potential future World Champions are Carlsen and Harikrishna.
TFK
A new young champion will emerge from the unrated players and become World Chess Champion in 2011. I’ll be back with his name in 2 years. Until then, who can stop Topalov from reigning?
carlsen, karjakin and Harikrishna – all three are good and committed
Some unknown kid from a third world country will develop his/hers skills on the internet …with no formal training …and go on to dominate chess for years to come
if beloved kirsan will keep fide presidentship – i suppose all of the mentioned, and some non mentioned, too, will become CHESS WORLD CHAMPION … but who will conquer the “number one ELO” position – my guess is – hmmmm… Karjakin
sincerly, Vohaul
I pick Radjabov as the best chance because he has the most proven track record. He beat Kasparov (albeit with some luck) and is the only junior who has broken the 2700 barrier so far. He also did fantastic at Linares, beating Topalov and Ivanchuk with the black pieces.
Karjakin and Carlsen undoubtedly have good chances too. I don’t know much about Harikrishna but his rating sure is soaring. Anyone who can manage a draw against your sister Judit definitely has potential!
“someone else” will theoretically become world champion someday. (unless the world ends real soon 🙂 )
I have best knowledge of my countryman Carlsen. A force to be reconed with IMO. He have a fair chance of becoming nr 1 in the world and taking the world championship. But then again, nobody can forsee the future…
Carlsen definitely will become World Champion, don’t know about the others 🙂
a year from now, we will include Negi and Sjugirov in that list …
prodigies come and prodigies go, but Topalov and Anand are still at leasta a few years ahead
