Weston students earn chess honors

Weston residents Noah Arthurs, Zachary Filler, Alexander Paolozzi, and Caleb Shapiro helped carry their Pierrepont School chess team to a first place victory in the Connecticut K-8 Open Championship, held earlier this spring at UConn.

Pierrepont School, located in Westport, also earned top placement at the SuperNationals Chess Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., in April.

More than 5,000 students competed in this national chess tournament.

Pierrepont School teams won fourth place in the K-8 U1000 section; 10th place in the K-12 U800 section; and 13th place in the K-1 Championship section.

Individual prizes at the SuperNationals went to numerous Pierrepont students, including Westonites Caleb Shapiro, 12, who tied for 20th place in the K-12 U800 section; Nathaniel Zettler, 12, who tied for 20th in the K-8 U1000 section; and Noah Arthurs, 12, who tied for 30th in the K-12 U1200 section.
