Former world chess champion and Russian pro-democracy activist Garry Kasparov: “Russia’s invasion (of Georgia) was the direct result of nearly a decade of Western helplessness and delusion. Inexperienced and cautious in the international arena at the start of his reign in 2000, (Vladimir) Putin soon learned he could get away with anything without repercussions from the European Union or America.”
Former longtime columnist Robert Novak: “I’ve been covering presidential campaigns since 1960. I have always said I have never seen the media as much entranced by a candidate as when they were in my very first campaign, in 1960, when they were for JFK. But I’m telling you right now, the enchantment with (Barack) Obama beats the JFK syndrome.”
Economist/columnist Robert Samuelson: “The first thing to do: Start drilling. It may surprise Americans to discover the United States is the third-largest oil producer, behind Saudi Arabia and Russia. We could be producing more, but Congress has put large areas of potential supply off-limits. These include the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and parts of Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico. By government estimates, these areas may contain 25 billion to 30 billion barrels of oil (against about 30 billion barrels of proven U.S. reserves today) and 80 trillion cubic feet or more of natural gas (compared with about 200 trillion cubic feet of proven reserves).”

Of course Russia has power, particularly in its own region. Why should the USA bully Russia into accepting Georgia as a US satellite? Russia is obliged to act in its own interests.
A US military that can’t even cope with Iraq is not going to have influence on the matter.
Garry should stick to Chess. That is his only skill.
As for the US. If Russia ever crosses the line, we won’t use soldiers, we will make the sky over Moscow rain fire, milk, and blood.
Let Putin try anything to harm the mainland US and he will see how helpless we are.
Russians are bullies who cower in the face of true power. The USA care nothing for Eastern countries like Georgia or Ukraine, but Russia better worry about treating these old Soviet ruplics with respect. A civil war is brewing and it is without US provocation.
As for the US. If Russia ever crosses the line, we won’t use soldiers, we will make the sky over Moscow rain fire, milk, and blood.
Hmm… What if they don’t use soldiers either?
Let Putin try anything to harm the mainland US and he will see how helpless we are.
– Let’s beat them up!
– What if they beat us?
– Beat us? What for?

Actually, it’s Garry’s helplessness and delusion. Even his comrade Limonov showed some reason lately. Garry failed to gather 500 people to start his presidential campaign, but it didn’t teach him anything. How sad.
It’s slightly more than 500 people…
The Law on Presidential Elections, ratified in May 1995, establishes the legal basis for presidential elections. Based on a draft submitted by Yeltsin’s office, the new law included many provisions already contained in the Russian Republic’s 1990 election law; alterations included the reduction in the number of signatures required to register a candidate from 2 million to 1 million. The law, which set rigorous standards for fair campaign and election procedures, was hailed by international analysts as a major step toward democratization. Under the law, parties, blocs, and voters’ groups register with the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and designate their candidates. These organizations then are permitted to begin seeking the 1 million signatures needed to register their candidates; no more than 7 percent of the signatures may come from a single federal jurisdiction. The purpose of the 7 percent requirement is to promote candidacies with broad territorial bases and eliminate those supported by only one city or ethnic enclave.
maybe 1500 people. It doesnt matter.
Kasparov didnt even reach the stage of the signature collection. He failed to gather a few hundered of people for a kick-off meeting (“initiative group” or whatever) where his candidacy should have been announced. Then
Sure the majority is brainwashed (everywhere, in the US or Russia) but this little relevance to fact that Kaspy is a freak with no agenda and no support whatsoever. In Russia, at least. He lied here in the States that he was a leader of an opposition movenment of a sort. so what?
