The 2006 French Championship took place in Besançon on August 14-26, 2006.

The Russian native GM Vladislav Tkachiev tied for first with GM Laurent Fressinet. Tkachiev then defeated Fressinet in a rapid play off for the title.

On the women side, there was no competition for IM Skripchenko. She scored 10 out of 11 to win by a full point.
