Vietnam’s Bao Tram wins Asian Blitz Chess Championship

A brilliant performance helped Vietnam’s Hoang Thi Bao Tram to achieve the Asian Women’s Individual Blitz Chess Championship held in Iran last week. |
The Vietnamese chess player won the precious golden medal after nine sets, with an impressive record including six wins, two draws and just one loss, and finally got 7 points.
Another Vietnamese player Nguyen Thi Thanh An won four, drew two and lost four sets, ranked 10th in the competition with five points. Pham Le Thao Nguyen and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung both had four wins and five losses and were ranked in the 17th and 18th positions.
Krishnan Sasikiran of India won the title for men; he also won six sets, drew two and lost one with 7 points.
Vietnamese male players did not get very good results this year. Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son was ranked 10th with 5.5 points. Cao Sang with 3.5 points and Dao Thien Hai with 3 points were respectively ranked 38th and 39th over 50 in the competition for male chess players.

Krishnan Sasikiran of Chennai won the Asian Blitz Chess Championship that was held at Mashad in Iran on May 11.
Sasikiran, born 1981, recorded 7/9 and won on tie-break after three players tied for first place. Strange, Sasikiran started with a defeat, then he beat six opponents and drew two for the title.
Among Sasikiran’s wins was one over the new Asian Individual champion P. Harikrishna in the penultimate round.
Indians missed the podium in the 1st Asian Women’s Individual Blitz Championship. World champion Hou Yifan played and did not win! Hoang Thi Bao Tram of Vietnam won on 7/9 on tie-break after she figured in a 3-way tie for the first place. Harika was in sole lead with 5.5/6 but defeats to Tan Zhongyi and Hou Yifan spoilt her tournament.
