Nakamura apparently was invited to Corus (B group?) but preferred to play in Gibraltar. One can only speculate why.

Indeed, I can only speculate, but perhaps Nakamura wants to ease himself into the world elite instead of plunging right into such strong events as Corus? If he was invited to B group this year, it is definitely a shame he didn’t accept. Chess needs more players like Hikaru Nakamura. Players like him bring excitement to the game, and that’s exactly what fans love.
Maybe he didn’t want to shake hands with Nigel Short.
