g6! Kxg6
d4 should win for black
1…… g6
2. K:g6 d4
3. f5 d3
4. f6 d2
5. f7 d1Q
6. f8Q+ and it looks like White is winning.
1…c4! (kind of Zugzwang!)
2. Kg6 d4!
3. cxd4 (3.Ke4 d3) b4
4. axb4 a3
5. bxa3 c3 wins
Very interesting endgame!
If after trying, you want to see what actually happened

I think g6 is right (but there’s no need for an exclamation point), then bring your king over, his king will block his other pawn. Descriptive language may cut it better in this case. 🙂
We no longer do Saturday Open Forum but maybe we can still get Susan’s US Open picks even if Andy Roddick won’t be playing the 2nd week.
It’s a very nice ending… I was better thinking in the most unnatural c4… mmm and see many variations, for instance first the most silly sequence:
1. … c4 or more complicated
2. Kg6 d4 2. g5 d4
3. cxd4 b4 3. cxd4 b4
4. axb4 a3 4. Ke4 c3
5. bxa3 c3 5. Kd3 cxb(5.bxc bxa)
get Queen 6. Kc2 bxa
7. f5 And dont see how to advance on an intermediate move that allows black to advance.. I dont have a program or even a board by here, when its clarified?’ hahh
Well no i saw how ended the game, but i have same doubt as before.
wow! nice moves huh… hope i will be like kasparov someday.. 😛
g6 is a wrong move. it allows tempo for white and a check at f8.
Pedro Q is correct…c4!
1…d4 if 2Ke4 dxc3 3bxc3 b4 wins
if 2cxd4 c4 followed by 3…b4 4…c3 wins.
