cute one – Kh1
This is not just cute. It’s absolutely brilliant.
One N covering the whole board! Amazing.
1.f4 zugzwang
Yes, it was 1.Kh1
Must know? Not really, but this is a truly remarkable example of zugzwang- after 1.Kh1 every black king move and bishop move loses to either 2.a6, a fork of the king and bishop, or the capture of the bishop at e3. Every other white move should either draw or lose, so Kh1 isn’t all that hard to find- it is the only king move that doesn’t let black queen the pawn.
The only move that one might have to eliminate as winning for white is 1.Nb3+ protecting the a-pawn from behind. In that line, there are some interesting ideas one can explore if one were interested.
