Keppel AmFELS has given UTB-TSC $60,000 for several new scholarship opportunities, the university reported on Friday. The funds were generated at the company’s annual charity golf tournament in November. The company will use $40,000 through its partnership with the Brownsville Community Foundation and $10,000 from the Houston Endowment to create the Keppel AmFELS Brownsville Community Foundation Student Scholarship.

This money will be for Brownsville Independent School District students planning to attend the University of Texas Brownsville and Texas Southmost College. Keppel AmFELS contributed an additional $10,000 for the Keppel AmFELS Chess Scholarship Endowment, the first for the chess program. Both scholarships will be for students planning to study mathematics, science or engineering.
