UMBC qualifies for Final Four of Chess
WASHINGTON (AP) – The University of Maryland, Baltimore County chess team placed third in the World Series of Chess today in Washington DC.
Because of their top-4 finish, U-M-B-C is going to the final four of chess in Dallas later this year.
University spokesman Chip Rose says the University of Texas-Dallas won the competition. The other two qualifying teams are from Miami-Dade College and Duke University.
The tournament to determine the nation’s top college chess team is planned March 24 and 25 in Dallas.
