Uganda has further improved by five places from 102nd to 97th as per the latest global chess rankings released by the World Chess Federation.

Uganda’s position in November when the ratings were last released was 102nd.

An improvement is a vivid indicator of the trend of development and growth of the game.

On the East African block, Kenya closely follows in the 122nd position, having fallen by two slots from 120th.

Rwanda has moved up seven places to from 162nd to 155th.

Tanzania (159) and Burundi (161) bettered their previous performances from 164th and 163rd, respectively.

On the continental Zone 4.2, where East Africa also falls, Egypt still carries the mantle in the 43rd place having bettered from 46th as Algeria is 69th.

Other African big weights are Tunisia (74) and Morocco on 76th.

Uganda Chess Federation recently held the internationally FIDE rated Rwabushenyi memorial chess tournament where International Master, Arthur Ssegwanyi came top in the male gender as teenager, Phiona Mutesi beat 14 year Gloria Nansubuga to take the female top honour.
