Turov, Czebe emerge joint winner in SCS International Open GM Chess Tournament

Bhubaneswar: Second seed Maxim Turov Russian Grand Master and Hungarian Grand Master Attila Czebe scored 5.5 points by the end of sixth round, emerged joint leaders in the second SCS International Open GM Chess Tournament held here on Tuesday.

Turov shared points in the sixth round with Argentine GM Anton Kovalyov on the top board. On the other hand, Czebe registered back to back wins over GMs Pablo Lafuente of Argentina and Alexandra Fier of Brazil in the fifth and sixth round respectively and to reach the top place.

Indian IM Atanu Lahiri along with seven Grandmasters shared the second place with five points each. Among Odia players, IM Swayangsu Satyapragyan lost to Russian GM Dmitry Kokarev on the sixth board and scored four points. But IM Debasish Das and WIM Padmini Rout made progress by registering draws against GMs Evgeny Vorobiov and Sergey Vokarev both of Russia.
