Last night, the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association (TTCA) was presented with the award for top National Sporting Organisation-Small Category for 2015, for the first time.

I felt honoured yet humbled to accept this prestigious Award, on behalf of the TTCA.

This milestone achievement came about from the hard work of the TTCA Executive Committee, who built upon the work of those members that served prior, in its bid to do what was best to develop chess in Trinidad and Tobago.

This award is also testimony to the collective effort of our entire community in supporting this and previous Executive Committees in the execution of its duties in a professional and meaningful manner.

It is an evident, that our work is being recognised by the wider community and this achievement should give us even more motivation to continue performing at a high standard.

Additionally, let this award mark the turning point for our sport in Trinidad and Tobago as we look forward to creating exciting prospects for chess in the future.

Sonja Johnson, President of Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association
