Grand Masters Trio Leads Capablanca Chess Tourney in Cuba

Havana, May 8 (Prensa Latina) Czech player Viktor Laznicka climbed to the top after defeating Russian Vladimir Potkin in 33 moves of a Sicilian Defense in the Elite Group”s 4th round of the Capablanca Memorial Chess Tournament held in this capital.

After winning, Laznicka accompanied the hitherto leaders, Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk and local Leinier Dominguez, both with draws on Monday in their respective matches.

Dominguez achieved the equality with his fellow countryman Yunieski Quesada after 34 moves of a Spanish Opening, and totaled 2.5 points, the same result as Ivanchuk and Laznicka.

In the case of Ivanchuk, multi-champion of the Capablanca Tournament, he resolved a draw against Russian player Ian Nepomniachtchi after 47 moves of a Sicilian Defense.

Following the leading trio are Nepomniachtchi with two points, Quesada (1.5) and Potkin (1).

On Wednesday, the 5th round, to be held in the international hall of the Hotel Havana Riviera in this capital, will display the following matches: Quesada-Potkin, Nepomniachtchi-Dominguez and Laznicka-Ivanchuk.
