g2 and black wins.
b-e4 draws?
If
1. …b5, then
2.Nf5 b4
3.Nd4 Bf3 (or Bh3)
4.h5!+-
If
1. …c4
2.Nc4 Kc4
3.Nd2 and I don’t see how the white pawns are stopped
If
1. …Be4
2.Ne4 and white wins easily
If
1. …Bf3 or Bh3
2.h5 Bg4
3.h6 and the pawn can’t be stopped (pushing the d pawn is met by Nc4)
thus, I think Kd7 is the only move here
1. …Kd7
2. Nf5 Ke8
3. Kf6 Kf8
4. g5 Be4
5. Nd4 Bd3
6. h5 b5
7. g6 b4
8. h6 Bg6
9. Kg6 Kg8
10. h7 Kh8
11. Nc6 b3
12. Nd8 b2
13. Nf7#
All in all, I think White stands better. However, endgame analysis is tough. I probably have missed something here.
9.
to anonymous, if
1. … g2
2. Kxg2 Kxg2
3. h3 Bh1
4. g3 Kd6 and white wins
if
3. … Bh1
4. Kxe4 and white wins
to roger and Yancey Ward
You need to rotate the board to get the correct position.
I think black have to be precise to get a draw.
1. … Bc8
2. h3 Kf4
and black should get a draw,
white knight have to stay on e3 or g2, black bishop is in control of white pawns.
Roger and yancey, i think you have the board around the wrong way. black is moving towards the top of the screen, not towards the bottom.
Yep, can barely make out those letters and numbers at the bottom and the left of the board.
1. …g2
2.Ng2 Kg2
3.Ke3 Bc8!
4.a6 Kg3
5.a7 Bb7
6.b6 Ba8
7.Ke2 Kf4
8.Kf2 e3
9.Ke2 Ke4
10.Kf1 Kf3
11.Ke1 e2 and black wins.
Oh, screw it anyway. I still messed it up. Time for bed, clearly.
The board is shown from Black’s perspective which is very confusing.
… Kf4
a6 Bc8
draw as white can’t make progress
Having a fresh look at it this morning,
1. ….g2
2. Ng2 Kg2
3. Ke3 Kg3
4. a6 Bc8
5. Ke4 and white should win
If, in the line above, black tries
4. ….Ba8
5. b6! and the pawns can’t be stopped. The point is that the bishop can only control the pawns if it can keep the white square on the sixth rank under observation, and here it can only do that from c8, but then the e pawn falls.
Thus, I think black is probably playing for a draw overall, and this makes me think the best line is:
1. ….Kf4
2. a6 Bc8
3. a7 Bb7
4. b6 Kf3
And I don’t see how either player makes any progress from here.
