Ed Zwick attached to direct ‘Pawn Sacrifice’
Tobey Maguire to star in and produce Bobby Fischer chess tale with Gail Katz Prods.

After immersing himself in all sorts of battlefields onscreen, Ed Zwick is looking to tackle one of the greatest chess battles of all time.
“The Last Samurai” helmer is attached to direct “Pawn Sacrifice,” which will be produced by Gail Katz Prods. and Tobey Maguire’s Material Pictures.
Pic, scripted by Steven Knight, centers on the true story of U.S. chess prodigy Bobby Fischer and his epic faceoff vs. Russia’s Boris Spassky. Maguire would play Fischer.
The team will now focus on finding an actor to play Fischer’s adversary.
Zwick is no stranger to helming pics based on real-life stories, having previously directed “Defiance” and “Glory.”
Zwick is repped by CAA. Maguire is repped by WME and Management 360.

Toby is too vertically challenged to play Bobby.
Tobey Maguire does look like Bobby Fischer.
One Bobby-Fischer-movie had a Fischer that looked like Spassky and Spassky that looked like Fischer. It was a strange movie automatically.
Bobby Fisher was 6’2″ while Tobey Maguire is only 5’8″. It’s like Spiderman trying to be Jack Skellington!
