f8N+
underpromote to a knight and it’s all over
1. f8N+, Rxf8 2. Nxf8+, Kh8 3. Qg8#
And here is another mate: 1. f8Q??, Qb1+ 2. Ka3, Qa1+ 3. Ba2, Qxb2# but it’s a half move longer so it won’t be the solution.
f8=N+! mates in three
Beelze
f8N+!
1. f8(N) Kg6
2. Qf7 Kg5
3. Qg8 Kh4
4. Qg1 should be enough to win.
1.f8=N works, doesn’t it? 1…Rxf8 2.Nxf8 Kh8 3.Qg8# What did I overlook this time?
PdV
1. f8=N+ Rf8
2. Nf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8#
f8=N+
1. f8(N)+! Rxf8
2.Nxf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8#
Unless I am missing something, it’s an easy mate in three.
1. f8=N+ Rxf8
2. Nxf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8 #
Giuseppe
with a smile f8S!!+
1. f8/N+ Rf8
2. Nf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8++
f8=N+ Rxf8
Nxf8+ Kh8
Qg8 how’s it going?
f8=N+ is sad for black 🙂
Promote f7-f8 = Knight wins the game
f8=N+ seems too easy for your normal level Susan 🙂
1. f8=N+, Rxf8
2. Nxf8+, Kh8
3. Qg8++
There’s something extra enjoyable about problems with underpromotion as a solution.
f8N+ RxNf8 NxRf8x#
An easy one.
1. f8=N+ (nothing other promotion works as ..Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2#)
..Rxf8 (forced)
2. Nxf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8#
f8N+ RxNf8
NxRf8+ Kh8
Qg8
An underpromotion should do it. (Apologies to all egalitarians for the “underpromotion” epithet.)
1. f8N+ R:f8
2. N:f8+ Kh8
3. Qg8#
Pretty, but easy.
Black is threatening checkmate by 1… Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2 mate. So white ought to go for a forced sequence – and after staring at the position for a couple of minutes I found this:
1. f8N+ Rxf8
2. Nxf8+ Kh8
3. Qg8 mate.
Seems like a straightforward underpromotion problem.
Very easy.
1. f8=N Rxf8
2. Nxf8 Kh8
3. Qh8++

“Black is threatening checkmate by 1… Qb1+ 2. Ka3 Qxb2 mate.”
Oups. Even when joking I can’t play chess.
“1. f8Q??, Qb1+ 2. Ka3, Qa1+ 3. Ba2, Qxb2# but it’s a half move longer so it won’t be the solution.”
So 1. f8Q?? seems to be one of the fastest ways to decide the game.
*rolleyes*
There are about over 100 other moves that will lose as quickly, Jochen, so *off topic* I would say.
