In October 2006, at this same Chess4Life Center room, in the Slugfest BAP tournament…
A.Shabalov opened with this same 1. e24 c75 2. Nb1a3 against G.Serper. The next few plies were 2… d76 [came after a long think] 3. c23 [vacating c2 for a later 9. Na3c2] ng8f6.
The game ended in a draw; which under BAP gave Black more points than it gave White. In fact, in the .PGN file, the draw is noted by the following:
{draw: 0-1}
