Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
What is there to debate, Karpov himself said in an interview Fischer would have beaten him in 1975 if the match had taken place but he felt in 1978 he would have beaten Bobby! It is one of life’s sorrow we never got to see Fischer, Karpov, Kasparov all competing in a tournament for first place! What exciting games these would have been! What chess lessons we all would have learned from.
Such conjectural acticles are just a stupid waste of time. Susan: your time would be much better spent on other matters (e.g. repairing the state of USCF).
What year was that picture taken?
Brian.
Americans and their history…It’s a joke
Fischer wouod have thrashed Karpov and Kasparov. Maybe only Kramnik would have beat him with the Berlin defense. Look how long Korchnoi is playing !!!
And Paul Morphy would have trashed
Fischer !
Hehehe
I agree that such conjectural questions lead nowhere. It is, I think, a waste of intellectual energy to contemplate too many “what if’s” of history. For example, “What if the South had won the Civil War?”
It’s impossible to know how the world of the 20th century would have unfolded.
So it is in chess. Talent wise, Fischer could have defeated Karpos but he could have just as easily lost due to his deteriorating mental state and delusional tendencies.
It seems the expert most qualified to comment on this matter already has, that is, Karpov himself, as pointed out by mayanking.
