Keep her real simplicity as the key focus,” was the brief Mumbai-based stylist Nisha Kundnani got for grandmaster and current World Chess champion Viswanathan Anand’s wife Aruna, when asked to work on the Union Bank of India (UBI) commercial in 2011.

The campaign featured the personal influences behind extraordinary achievers. It included music maestro A.R. Rahman’s mother Kareema Begum, Sachin Tendulkar’s brother Ajit Tendulkar, and Aruna, the woman who matters in Viswanathan’s life. “It was about getting the idea of ‘Aruna at home’ right,” says Kundnani.

From then to 2012, while shooting with the first couple of Indian chess for the real estate brand True Value Homes (the TVH commercial, in both Hindi and Tamil, was released recently), Kundnani admits that Aruna’s charming and disarming “simplicity” challenged her styling skills.
