I disagree at this point. Nakamura has not shown, in my opinion, any recent progress beyond his initial boom to stardom a year or two ago. I hope I will soon have occasion to change my mind, but right now he reminds me of Josh Waitzkin, with the notable exception that he made it much further on the ratings ladder.
Aside from both being Americans who played good chess at a young age, I see few similarities between the two. For starters, at age 19 there was an approx. 200 point rating difference between them.
Nakamura is a great player. he is still very young. he received far too much criticism from the american public. give the kid a chance. back off and let him be himself.
Skill progression in any activity is almost never linear. There’s often a burst of progress, follow by a plateau or even a slight regression, followed by another burst of progress, and so on… Nakamura is just at a plateau right now and I don’t doubt that he will show another great increase in his chess strength very soon.
Where is the post? There is no text, only the picture, so it’s a bit funny to read such detailed responses to the void. If possible, would you please re-post the original text?
Hikaru need a girlfriend and a normal life. He spends too much time on icc.
