Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Please explain Res. & Koya
Fierro found life is much tougher when facing the top of the order. She wet 0-3 vs the Hou Koeru and Zhao.
Great game by Hou!
Res is a head to head score between tied players and serves as a 1st tie-breaker. Second tie-breaker is Sonne-Berger score, and the 3rd tie-breaker is Koya system (score against opponents who scored more than 50%)
Thats Sonneborn-Berger of course, or better said it is Neustadtl score.
Sonneborn-Berger is a misnomer, since William Sonneborn and Johann Berger were actually strong critics of the Neustadtl score and proposed their own tie-breaking system which was never popular and is not used today.
From the start, I’ve had no doubt on who will win this event. Hou will not only win, she will dominate. She is a real phenom – she goes from strength to strength. I think she will eventually surpass Judit’s rating.
Humpy Dumpy had a great fall!
What a blunder by Humpy, and what a brilliant punishment executed by Hou.
