This is one of the brightest young female stars in the world today. She is Yifan Hou (born in 1994!!) of China. Her rating jumped from 2298 a few months ago to 2488 and #8 on the July 2006 FIDE list! She is officially still only a WFM!!
In the recent Olympiad, she score 10 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws (performance rating of 2596) for China! Remember this name! While others are busy trying to be chess models, she concentrates on improving her chess and she will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come! I predict that she will be a GM as well as a future Women’s World Champion.
Congratulations to Xie Jun for doing a magnificent job developing young talents in China!
Wow, predicting her to be a future Women’s World Champion is quite a compliment coming from Susan. Yifan Hou is so young, this thread makes me feel very old!
Here is a link to an interview article and photos of Yifan Hou

OK, when we next start reading about top players born in the 2000’s, then I’m going to have to leave. (lol)
Thanks Susan for alerting us know about this young lady.
I hope she has enough funding and support not to have to resort to modeling for supplementary income. Good luck to her!
Only a future Womens’s World Champion? Why not a real WC?
Does she have any GM norms? It seems like she could be a threat to take the youngest GM title if she plays in some norm tournaments.
Yes, others are trying to be chess models, like Alexandra Kosteniuk. She’ll never be a GM.
