Grandmasters sign up for Hastings International Chess Congress
The 83rd Hastings International Chess Congress starts next Friday (December 28).
Hastings mayor Maureen Charlesworth and MP Michael Foster will help open the annual event which this year is being held at Horntye Park Sports Complex.
Entries for the Masters Tournament are coming in thick and fast from around the World and already include 16 grandmasters, 15 international masters and three female grandmasters.
A host of club players from around the UK and overseas are also entered in the four and five day Christmas and New Year events which run concurrently.
The festival also includes the 25th Hastings Weekend Congress and as well as serious chess, the programme includes the usual popular evening events for more amateur players.
Spectators are welcome and there will be daily commentary on masters games by grandmaster Chris Ward.
The congress is once again being sponsored by Hastings Borough Council and has also receive d backing from the John Robinson Trust.
