“The Chess Game” by F. Beda
The picture is very subtle. Note that the man playing the game has only 2 pieces left on the board while the lady that he is playing has 12 pieces left. Then note his positive pose and self confident demeanor. Bob said that he gets a big smile every time that he looks at the picture.
Thanks for sharing it with us!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Girls rule and boys drool.
Seems to me that many artists’ pictures of chess games show unlikely or even impossible positions. They’re concerned with the overall impression, not the rules of the game.
i’m impressed by the girls (women’s) behaviour … oh – good old times – there was respect and love between men and women – what is it nowadays? nowadays it’s the pure egoistic struggle for a win – struggle for ELO points – for ranks and titles – i hate the British (not really – of course!) for inventing the sportive idea – there is no erotic exitement in nowadays chess, boring, isn’t it?
*smirking
That is obviously Mikhail Tal in a previous life! Only Tal would be compfortable having two pieces to an opponents twelve! Of course he is confident!
addendum: (*big smile)
BTW – two facts are definitively known:
1)women are less intelligent than men!
2)the world is a flat disk!
(Haegar the Viking)
Yes the “overall impression” of impending defeat for the man can’t possibly have been intended by the artist, can it?
The male is Tal in a previous life but the lady is a Polgar!
The picture is really a playback of the gender roles that women play in society: laid back – non-dominant, with man being the dominant ruler. I am shocked that Susan Polagar would choose such a painting. This painting should be sent back right to where it belongs: history.
Chill dude! It’s just a painting that was sent in by a fellow blogger. Chill man!
This painting was on eBay and I beleieve it sold for well over $200.00
