At nearly 80 years old, legendary GM Korchnoi can still play amazing chess. Here are his results so far after 4 rounds in Gibraltar:
Rd. | SNo | Name | Rtg | FED | Pts. | Res.
1 | 99 | Stebbings Anthony J | 2285 | ENG | 1.0 | w 1
2 | 3 | GM | Caruana Fabiano | 2721 | ITA | 2.0 | s 1 |
3 | 18 | GM | Akobian Varuzhan | 2618 | USA | 2.5 | w ½ |
4 | 5 | GM | Bologan Viktor | 2693 | MDA | 2.0 | s ½ |
He is 3/4 with a performance rating of about 2800!

This will be the first time and last time you write about me on this blog, Ja?
Korchnoi beat Caruana?? And then draws with two other 2600+ GMs? Wow, the old man still knows a trick or two :o)
It must be the oatmeal.
As far as I’m concerned, Korchnoi got robbed of the World Championship in his match with Karpov. It’s good to see that he can still play a mean game.
Too bad he missed an easy win vs Bologan today…
Korchnoi rocks!!!
he is simply amazing!
he is a shinning example to all those great players who go soft in there old age ( or even there middle age! )
I like Dr. Susan Polgar’s chess zeal and also her hair. 🙂
Blackburne teaching.
Susan, sweet greetings.

I don’t believe the first comment is really by Korchnoi, but it reminds of some of his words after he had lost a blitz game to Sofia Polgar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLxi5Vglee4
Since reading Kortchnoi’s “Ein Leben für das Schach” (1978) I have admired this man, his life and his games. I still do, a sort of, but the gloss got a spot after discovering the above mentioned video.
I have 50 years to get at his level!
