Who’s the dude on the left?
I just played through this game this morning. With black’s king still in the centre, white can leave his knight en prise and grab the e-pawn.
1. Nxe5 Nxe5
2. Qh5+ Kd7
3. Qxe5 etc.
White eventually gets black’s h8 rook and black resigns several moves later. Black neglected to castle to his peril.
nxe5
Ni’s play looked reckless, i hoped punishment would come. And it did! nice tactics by Andrey9.
btw check Kosintseva vs Ushenina game of today – nice tactics and deep ideas behind
After…
1.Ne5 Ne5
2.Qh5 Ng6
3.Nd6 Kd7
4.Qf5 Kc7 ( if Kd6, Bg3#)
I don’t see a clear continuation though I like White’s position much more.
After….
1.Ne5 Ne5
2.Qh5 Ng6
3.Nc5 Kf7
It appears the king escapes to g8 and I again don’t see a clear continuation.
I prefer:
1.Ne5 Ne5
2.Qh5 Ng6
3.Ng5 Be7
4.Re7 Ke7
5.Re1 and if Kf8
6.Qf3 Kg8
7.f7#
So…
4.……Kd7
5.Qf5 Kc7
And the black queen will fall it seems to me if the king tries to escape to b6.
I see one of the first commenters mentioned that black didn’t block the check with Ng6, but I looked at that line, too, and it just looked like surrender to me- gave up the material and still wide open attack lines.
Hmmm, I didn’t look at 2. Qh5+ but 2. Nc5.
Is there a good defense for black?
1. Nxe5!, Nxe5 2. Nxc5
2. -, Qxc5 3. Qxe5+, Kd7 (3. -, Be7 4. Bxe7; 3. -, Kf7 4. Qe6+) 4. Qe6+, Kc7 5. Rac1
Best seems to be 2. -, Bd6 3. Nxb7 with the threat of Nxd6 giving black no time to castle and the other threat (after 3. -, Qxb7) 4. f4.
In this last line white is up just one pawn but it’s going to be a strong passed pawn and white is much more active.
I think this should win(, too)?
Best wishes from Germany
Jochen
Jochen,
I looked at that line, too, before I commented, and it looked to me that it wins as well. I just thought the check at h5 was stronger overall.
Who is Hi Hua?
1. Nxe5 Nxe5
2. Qh5+
Jochen’s line
looks bad:
2 Nxc5 Bxc5
3 Qxe5+ Kf8
and what next? Olimat
Olimat,
Rac1 pins and will win the bishop after b4. And the black king is still in the open and blocking in the king’s rook. White’s position looks very strong in this sequence.
