-Justin Daniel
The first try doesn’t work b/c 1.Rxe5 Qxe5 2.Re1 Qxf6 is a good “wherever”
Qh6+ Ke8 Qf4 wins the rook as Rxe1 is met by Ba4+ Bd7 Rxe1 Kf8 Qh6+. If the immediate 1.Rxe5? Qxe5 Re1 then Qxf6 and black is the one who is winning. Also if 1. Qf4? Re1 2. Qh6 Ke8 3. Ba4 Rd7! and white is better but black is still very much alive.
Yes, White can break through Black’s defense.
1. Ba4 Qxf6
2. Qc3 and Black suffers heavy material loss.
1. Ba4 Bd7
2. Bxd7 Rxd7
3. RxRe5 QXRe5
4. Re1 Qxf6
5. Qh6+ Qg7 [ 5..Kg8 6. Re8++]
6. Re8+ KxRe8
7. QxQg7
Rxe5 Qxe5
Re1 Qd6
Qh6+ Kg8
Qxg7++
I dont see how black can get over Rxe5. if the queen takes or not its c’est la vie pack your bags youve be spanked.
Rxe5 Qxe5
Re1 Qd6
Qh6+ Kg8
Qg7++
Rxe5 Qxe5
Re1 Qxe1
Qxe1 Rxd5
Qe7+ Kg8

Rxe5 Qxe5
Re1 Qxe1
Qxe1 Re8
Qd2 Rc8
Qh6+ Ke8
Qe3+ Kf8
Qe7+ Kg8
anyways you look at it Rxe5 inflicts damage.
Well since nobody has the correct:
1. Qh6+ Ke8
2. Ba4+ Bd7
3. Qf4
there are probably a number of advantageous continuations for white. For example the direct Qh6+ Ke8 Ba4+ Bd7 f4 Bxa4 Rxe5+ looks fairly good
I go with the 4th Anonymous:
Most accurate is:
1.Qh6+ Ke8
2.Qf4 Rxe1
3. Ba4+ etc.
I go with Anonymous IV, most accurate is:
1. Qh6+ Ke8
2. Qf4 Rxe1
3. Ba4+
and mate in very few.
I admit there are alternative material wins.
Qh6+ Ke8
Ba4+!! Bd7 (or Rd7, Bxd7+)
Qf4 Bxa4 (forced)
Black’s B now blocks Rd8 from supporting Qd6. Both Black Q & K are pinned. eg. .. Rxe1 fails as Qxd6 (takes Q). White’s Rxe5 will take Q + R for R.
Rxe5 Kd7 ((Black loses exchange) Re7+ Kc8
Qxd6 Rxd6
Rxf7, winning
if …. Rxd5 or Rd7; Rg7! ( followed by f7)
ie…Rxd5 2. Rg7 Rf5 3. f7 ( Be8, 4. fxe8=Q or Kc7 4 f8=Q+)
otherwise (Rd8, Be8, Bd7) aim for Re1, Re7
