Ne6+ Kf7
Qf8#
or
Ne6+ Kh6
Qg5#
1. Ne6+ Kh6 (if 1… Kf7; 2 Ng5+ with a perp)
2. Qf8+ Kh5 (only move)
3. Ng7+ Kg5 (if 3 … Kh4; 4. g3+ Kh3; 5. Ng5#)
4. Ne6+ Kh4 (if 4 … Kh5; 2. Ng7+ with a perp)
5. Qh6#
So Black must take the perp
Draw is very easy…
1. Ne6+ Kf7
(If 1. … Kh6? 2. Qh4+ checkmate)
2. Ng5+ Kg7
3. Ne6+ and draw by repition!
Win is little more tricky…
1. Ne6+ Kf7
(If 1. … Kh6? 2. Qh4+ checkmate)
2. Qd7+ Ne7
(If 2. … Kg8? 3. Qg7+ checkmate)
3. Ng5+ and White checkmates in all the possible lines!
For instance,
3. … Kf8 4. Qd8+ Kg7 5. Qxe7+ Kh6
6. Nf7+ Kg7 7. Qf6+ Kf8 8. Nd6+ Kg8 9. Qf7+ Kh8 10. Qf8+ checkmate
OR
3. … Kg8? 4. Qe6+ Kh8 5. Qf6+ Kg8 6. Qf7+ Kh8 7.Qxh7+ checkmate
OR
3. … Kg7 4. Qxe7+ and transposes to the first line above!
Ne6+ Kf7
Ng5+ Kg7
Ne6+ etc.
The King can never go to h6 or else Qh4#.
1. Ne6+
1. … Kh6
2. Qh3#
1. … Kf7
2. Ng5+ Kg7
3. Ne6+ perpetual check
Again my so called `solution’ did not work completely. Let us try again:
Ne6+ Kf7
Qd7+ Kg8
Kg7#
Qd7+, I see three main lines after that move
1. Ne6+ Kf7 (if 1…Kh6 2.Qh4++)
2. Ng5+ draw by repetition
Ne6 followed by Qd7+. Black is forced to answer this with Ne7 and white can win the knight after Ng5+.
White has at least a perpetual here, but I think there is also a mate here but I can’t quite work out all the lines.
I remember this one well. White must act quickly since black is threatening his own mate starting with Bd2 discovered check.
Ne6?
How on earth did I miss 2 Qg5# after 1 … Kh6??
