According to my sources, Svidler has captured his 5th Russian Championship title by winning the playoff earlier today. He defeated his two opponents by the score of 1.5 – .5 in their head to head matchups.
Jakovenko finished 2nd by beating Alekseev in both games while losing to Svidler .5 – 1.5.
Alekseev scored 1 draw against Svidler while losing both games to Jakovenko.
Congratulations to Peter Svidler!
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Wow, congratulations to Svidler for pulling this off. Given his busy schedule (European Club Cup and Schachbundesliga) I was wondering whether he would be fresh enough for this playoff. Apparently he was…
Multihued!!
another feather in the cap for ‘tendulkar’. nicely done..
How much money did he win? I mean, that was the most reason why he plaid, right? I mean, tell us why, so my student knows why to play chess and not football, ok?
If chess is going to be like tennis, there they talk only about moneys.
He won $250,000.
I was wrong about Peter. I thought he was not good for 1st place. I am ashamed to have written the prognosis he would never win. I apologize.
Why is nobody congratulating the other players???
Good question.
Most of them don’t know the merits of Jakovenko and Alexeev. They mean Nakamura and Onishuk are the much better ones. 🙂
