Difficult. I have no idea.
d5 looks promising
b6 then Bb7 creates some threat on white’s e4 square.
Or d5 then if white plays exd5 then black plays Rxh4 followed by Bf5+ … black’s bishops become more powerful as the diagonal squares become more open.
Well, what about
1…..b6 (threating 2….Ba6+3.Ke2 Nxf1+ and winning a piece)
2.c4 Bb7 (threatinng 3…Bxe5+ and winning the rook)
3.Nd2 f5!
And I don’t see how white could defend.
1…rxe4 is worth analysis by someone with much more time than me ..eg 2.Kxe4 d5+…?
1…b6
2.Bh3
Is there any hurry to play 2.c4? Why not wait until it’s needed to block the bishop check from a6?
1…Rxe4!?
… looks like a fun move, but maybe:
2.Kxe4 d5+
3.Kd3 b6
4.Na3 Ba6+
5.c4
… bails White out. He still has to watch out for a potential bishop skewer check from g7, spearing a rook, but he’s a rook ahead to begin with after 2.Kxe4.
Kibitzer, your second idea looks good:
1…d5
2.exd5 Rxh4!
3.gxh4 Bf5+
4.Kd2 Nc2+
… and Black snags the rook on a1. And:
1…d5
2.Bh3 dxe4+
3.Kd2
… gives Black time to retreat his rook and still keep the attack going on White’s king.
That last comment by anonymous is the correct continuation. The answer is 1.d5.
This leads to 2.exd5 Rxh4! 3.gxh4 Bf5+ and black will win his rook back with a much better position after 4.Kd2 Nc2+.
It can also lead to the slightly less exciting, yet still greatly advantageous 2.Bh3 dxe4+ 3.Kd2 Rg5 4.Kxe3 Rxg3+ 5.Kf2 (the other squares are suicide) …Rxh3 with a very dangerous pawn and offensive for black.
I think 1…Rxh4 2.gxh4 d5 is the correct answer. if 3. exd5 then Bf5+ wins material. if 3. Nd2 dxe4 4.Nxe4 Bf5 and white cannot save the knight. Best is perhaps 3.Rg1 but I don’t think after 3…dxe4 4.Kd4 white can save the game: even the simple 4…Kf8 should suffice

Interesting! I never even thought to look at 1…Rxh4, preferring to keep it in reserve for 1…d5 2.exd5 Rxh4, like Kibitzer suggested. But things look grim for White after:
1…Rxh4!?
2.gxh4 d5
3.Rg1 dxe4+
4.Kxe4
(not 4.Kd4 Nc2+)
4…Nc2
Black has all the chances, but does he have a forced win?
