Rxh7+ Kxh7
Qf3 and black is helpless
For example:
……g5
Qh5+ Kg7
Qg6+ Kh8
Qh6 mate
or
……g6
Qh3+ Kg7
Qh6 mate
Seems easy enough
1. Rh7 Kh7
2. Qf3 and the threat of mate can only be delayed:
2. …..g5 (g6 3.Qh3 Kg 4.Qh6#)
3. Qh5 Kg7
4. Qg6 Kf8 (Kh8 5.Qh6#)
5. Qf7#
Bc7 I belive its the best continuation
Qf3 is a good move i guess,followed by Qh5 using the fact that f5 controls g6 and the dar-squared bishop can be sac’ed on h6 with mate threats. I don’t see a defense for black since white’s light-squared bishop is doing a good job pinning the knight and blocking the king’s only exit.
I´ll keep looking for something else, the black Q is completely out of play since after Qf3..Qc3, Qh5
A mere glance at the position and it seems to be crying out for 1. Rxh7+.
And indeed after 1. …Kxh7, 2. Qf3 how is black going to prevent mate? Well he isn’t, is he?
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7 2. Qf3 g5 (2… g6 3. Qh3+ Kg7 4. Qh6#) 3. Qh5+ Kg7 4. Qg6+ Kh85. Qh6# 1-0
The Black King is very exposed. The moves that catch my eye are Rxh7+ and Qf3. Black’s defensive possibilities are very limited; Nf8 covers h7 but drops the Queen; g5 gives the King an escape square while blocking the Bishop’s route to h6 but allows fxg6 e.p.
Note White’s Queen is attacked and undefended.
Let’s try Rxh7+ first:
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7 (forced)
2. Qf3 (threat Qh3#) g5 (2. … g6 3. Qh3+ Kg7 4. Qh6#)
3. Qh5+ Kg7
4. Qg6+ Kh8 (4. … Kf8 5. Qf7#)
5. Qh6#
No need to look at Qf3 now, I guess.
start with Bishop to C7
1.Rxh7!
1.Rxh7+ Kxh7
2.Qf3 mating
A solver in the Bronx
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qf3 g6
3. Qh3+ Kg7
4. Qh6++
2… g5
3. Qh4+ Kg7
4. Qg6+ Kh8
5. Qh6++
1. Rxh7! Kxh7 2. Qf3 >> Qh3 and I can’t see any escape.
From Spain…
1)Rh7+,Kh7
2)Qf3,g5
3)Qh5+,Kg7
4)Qg6+,Kh8
5)Qh6++
1)Rh7+,Kh7
2)Qf3,g6
3)Qh3+,Kg7
4)Qh6++
Greetings from Spain
Kind Regards from Poland 🙂
1.Rxh7+ Kxh7
2.Qf3 g6
3.Qh3+ Kg7
4.Qh6++
if 2…. g5
3.Qh5+ Kg7
4.Qg6+ and mate.
if 2…. other
3.Qh3++
Xargon the true
Qf3
1.Rxh7+! Kxh7 2. Qf3 seems to announce checkmate in a few moves…
Kamalakanta
After
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qf3
the only move by Black that postpones mate by a few moves is
2…. g5
after which
3. Qh5+ Kg7
4. Qg6+ Kf8
5. Bd6# is mate.
After 2…. g6 the mate is quicker:
2…. g6
3. Qh3+ Kg7
4. Qh6#
Lucy
White should play as follows:
1. Rxh7+ Kxh7
2. Qf3 and mate is inevitable
1.Rxh7+ Kxh7 2.Qf3 and there is no way to avoid mate.
Hi Susan Polgar,
As usual brainy minds had already discussed the best combination moves,kudos to all.
