Students to test chess strategies on Tuesday

Dozens of young chess players will test their abilities at the Spring Break Chess Tournament, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the Community Room at Norwalk City Hall.

They will compete for trophies in three division with medals awarded to all elementary school pupils who take part.

The tournament is sponsored by Fairfield County Chess, founded by Melvin Patrick, who has taught chess for many years and given classes at the Norwalk Housing Authority, the George Washington Carver Center Community Center and the Norwalk Public Library.

The $30 early entry, which must be postmarked by April 8, includes a complimentary pizza lunch the day or the tournament. The entry fee will be $50 at the door.
