must realize that there is no immediate mate. and that the queen is almost trap except for square c2. if only we can put the white queen along the b1-h7 diagonal without being attacked. combining these ideas, 1.Qh8+ Kf7 2.Qh7+ Ke8 3.Qg6+ Kd8 4.Rb4 then black can try 4…Rd1+. white should not capture the rook. so 5.Kh2 so black can only choose between knight or rook for her queen.
Man muss das ganze Brett sehen!
Ein sehr elegantes Motiv, auf das Speelman bestimmt schon seit 22. … Db3 hingearbeitet hatte, inklusive schönem Qualitätsopfer.

Almost instantly saw the potential for playing Rb4 and winning the queen for a rook, but the black queen can escape through c2. So, can white close this escape avenue? Yes, he can:
1. Qh8 Kh7
2. Qh7 Ke8
3. Qg6
And no matter if black blocks the check with one of the rooks, or moves the king, white will play 4.Rb4 and win black’s queen for a rook. Still not a trivial win from there, but the passed h-pawn and the knight should eventually win one of black’s rooks.
I just got it. Qh8, Qh7, Qg6 and Rb4 trapping the queen. simple and yet not that easy 🙂
Rb4
1sr Qh8-7-g6
then Rb2 snagging the girl
There might be something even better, but here’s what I see…
1- Qh8+ ; Kf7
2- Qh7+ ; Ke8
3- Qg6+; any
and only then:
4- Rb4, black’s queen is trapped.
Maybe something is wrong here. it seems too easy. Qh8 and Rh7#??
1Qh8+ kf7 2Qh7+ ke8 3 Qg6+ k any
4 Rb4 queen is trapped. NICE
1.Qh8+ Kf7 2.Qh7+ Ke8 3.Qg6+ Kd8 4.Rb4.
1. Qh8+ Kf7
2. Qh7+ Ke8
3. Qg6+ Kd8
4. Rb4
Very nice. One must certainly see the whole board.
R-b4, but first Q-h8, h7, g6 to cover c2, then the black queen is trapped.

Dear malaya ,
Your analysis is perfect but how do you know that Strangl is a woman? Or is “strangl” a woman’s name usually which I am not aware of?
1. Qh8+ should win a rook eventually.
