d6 stop the rook from moving to the h file
Great blog, I emailed one of the articles to my professor. For the best free online chess game play go to http://www.ChessBoss.com
Well, h7 is no good, obviously.
One must cut the rook off from h6:
1. d6 Kd6/Kf7 (Rd6 loses to Bc5)
2. h7 Ra8
3. h8(Q)winning

I would try
1. d6+
and then push the pawn or pin the rock and then puch the pawn
I guess 1.d6+! wins easily. 1… Rxd6 2.Bc5 winning; 1… Kxd6 2.h7 Ra8 3. h8=Q Rxh8 4.Bxh8 winning without problems.
regards
Manuel
1.h7 fails to Rh6+, so first 1.d6! If Kxd6 then 2.h7, and if Rxd6 then 2.Bc5, after which black has to give up the rook to go after the pawn.
PdV
1. d6+! is a nice interference. 1…r:d6 2. Bc5 wins, or 1…K:d6 2. h7 and the pawn is worth the Rook as well.
1. d6 looks interesting as a blocking move
If 1. Rd6, then the pin should work.
1. h7 isn’t a good idea, cause of Rh6+ and the pawn is lost. Therefore the 6th rank must be blocked for the rook:
1. d6+! The rook can’t take the pawn because of the 2. Bc5-pin.
1. … Kxd6
2. h7 and black must give the rook.
how about d6? if king takes h7 wins. if rook takes bishop skewers on c5, should win.
finally, if king simply moves, the h pawn still can’t be stopped except by Ra8
1.d6+! seems to be the way forward for white. If this pawn is captured by the black king the white h-pawn can safely advance (the immediate 1.h7 would fail due to 1…Rh6+), however, if the rook takes on d6 the pin 2.Bc5 wins for white.
Beelze
1. d6 check
I think 1. d6+ is the right move.
Bg7 then h7-h8. White wins.
1.Bg7?? Kf7 and were is white’s win?
After 1. d6+ (blocking the rook’s access to the h-file), Black will have to surrender the rook for White’s h-pawn.
1. … Kxd6 (1. … Rxd6; 2. Bc5)
2. h7 Ra8
3. h8(Q) Rxh8
4. Bxh8
Now I think White gets to Black’s kingside pawns before Black can defend them.
Seems in recent weeks only wrong solutions to the puzzles are released. Why? If you do not want to see the solution then simply do not click on them…
It feels like I have seen this before. And yes, d6! comes to mind immedately. I wonder what game it is? And where did I see it?
Anon 12:16: Kf7 looks like a good response to Bg7 to me.
I like:
1. d6+ Kxd6 (1. … Rxd6 2. Bc5 winning the rook since Kf7 is forced to stop the h pawn promoting, 1. … K any other the capture 2. h7 Ra8 is the same as the main line except that the d6 pawn is still alive)
2. h7 Ra8
3. h8=Q Rxh8
4. Bxh8 winning the rook
Actually, I think it good that Susan holds up the correct solutions in the comments for a bit before releasing them. I know I sometimes am too lazy to work it out for myself if there are a large number of comments already posted with the correct answer.
d6 is the move i guess…
ey visit my website too :http://chessrealm.blogspot.com/
Well Yancey, then probably ALL suggested solutions should be withheld from being published, not only the correct ones…
after all have been said and done, i suggest that susan should also post simultaneously with the new one her suggested solution to yesterday’s puzzle.
