Wonderful to see the parents/coaches section. Bravo!
I love playing chess in Vegas. Fred and Susan are awesome organizers.
yeah,ok.
On what basis are the scholarships to TTU going to be awarded?
I think it would be good to know now whether our kids are eligible against the other criteria.
You conditionally awarded some scholarships at your last event.
Who did they go to: I do not think you ever said. And what were the other conditions?
All scholarships are awarded based on the performance of the players in the tournament.
In the SP National Event in Brownsville, the criteria for the 2 scholarships to Texas A&M Kingsville was:
– Winner of the HS girls and boys’ sections.
– The winner must be a HS student.
TTU has different criteria to avoid conflict with the other scholarships.
We cannot release or publish the names of the recipients without their parents’ consent since they are minors.
There are plenty of opportunities for scholarships. If you would like more information, please send me an email with your name, phone number and the name of your children, I will call you back to discuss the details.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
You should never release these kids’ names unless you have their consent. Security is very important and as a chess parent, I would not consent it. There are too many crazy people in the chess community like Sloani, Roberti and Laffernati.
Thank you. If the parents did not give consent, it is of course correct not to publish their names … I presume you did not publish the names of the winners of the HS girls and boys sections.
[ It was not necessary to cheapen the point by casting unsubstantiated aspertions about three other people in the blog: your contributor did the blog no favours there. ]
Maybe, however, you missed my point. The TTU scholarships are to be awarded only in part on chess performance – so what is the other part?
We also consider their grades and interests. We do speak to the students and parents / legal guardians. Some students / parents may say that their kids already have interests in other schools. Some may say that TTU does not offer what they want to study. The scholarships then would go to another player with interest to go to TTU.
In addition, if a player has excellent grades, we can help him / her obtain a full academic scholarship. Our goal is to help the students.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar
