Top USCF Rated Players to Compete in the South Jersey Open
At least Two of the nation’s top chess players, including the number one (18th overall) rated player under the age of 21 Alex Lenderman, will be competing at the 2009 South Jersey Open Chess Championship in Mt. Laurel, NJ next Sunday.
“With two International Masters, one FIDE Master, and two Senior Masters already registered, this is likely to be the strongest tournament held in South Jersey since the2007 U.S. Open,” said Chief Tournament Director Stephen Dick.
Thus far, 29 players from three states have registered to take part in the South Jersey Championship.
That number is expected to top 100 by the time onsite registration ends just prior to the tournament’s 10:00 AM start.
“It is not just about attracting the top players,” said former USCF president Dr. Leroy Dubeck.
“We are actively encouraging the participation of talented regional juniors, and there will be players of every ability at the tournament. It is very positive for South Jersey”.
The All the King’s Men Chess Center in Pitman, NJ believes this tournament will improve chess’ visibility in South Jersey and help attract young players.
