RxN
if
… QxR then
Nxh5+ fork!
if
… KxR then
Nxd5+ fork!
make sure you shout “fork!”, especially on FICS
Maybe 1. Nxh5. ?
– If 1…Nxh5, then 2. Qxg4+ with difficult position for black
1. Ne6+ Rxe6 2. fxe6 fxe6 3. Qe5 Kg6 4. Rxc7 Qf8 5. Rc6 Qe7 6. g3 Nd7 7. Qxd5
If white starts with RxN, black can play Re1+. Something like
1. Rxf6 Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kxg3 Qe3+. Black’s probably got a small edge.
after 1. Nxh5 Nxh5 2. Qxg4+, black has 2…Kf8 3. Qxh5 Re1+ Kh2 Qe5+ and even .
Wow, that third line is complex. White’s clearly winning at the end of it. Sadly, I’m not up to checking all the options black has right now.
1. Ne6+
(if 1. Nxh5+ Nxh5 2. Qxg4+ Kf8 3. Qxh5 Re1+ 4. Kh2 Qe5+ 5. g3 Ke7 6. Rfc2 Kd8 7.Qh4+ Kc8 8. Rxc7+ Kb8 9. Rd7 Re2+ 10. Rxe2 Qxe2+ 11. Kg1 Qd1+ and white lost the advantage)
(if 1. Rxf6 Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kxg3 Qe3+ 4. Qxe3 R8xe3+ 5. Kh2 Kxf6 6. Nxd5+ Kg5 7. Nxe3 Rxe3 8. Rc2 Re7 9. Kg3 Kxf5 10. Rc4 Rd7 11. Kf2 Kg5 12. Ke3 black have the advantage)
1… Rxe6 2. fxe6 fxe6 3. Qe5 Kg6 4. Rxc7 Qf8 5. Rb7 h4 6. Rxb6 Qe7 7. Rc6 Nd7 8.Qxd5 and white wins.
If
(if 8…Nf8 9. Qe4+ Kh6 10. Qf4+ Qg5 11. Qf7 g3 12. Rf3 Qe7 13. Qxe7 Rxe7 14. Rxf8)
(if 8… Kh6 9. Qf5 g3 10. Rf4 Qc5+ (10…Qd8 11. Rxe6+ Rxe6 12. Qxe6+ Kh5 13. Rf5+) 11. Qxc5 Nxc5 12. Rxc5))
(if 8… Nf6 9. Qe5 Nd7 10. Qf5+ Kh6 11. Qxg4 Ne5 12. Qf4+ Qg5 13. Qxg5+ Kxg5 14. Rc5 Kg6 15. Rxe5)
black lose its horse and the game.
Nxh5
if
..Nxh5, Qxg4
anything else, Nxf6
1. Rxf6 Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kh3 Rh1+ (3 … gh 4. Rg6++ K~ 5. Qg7X) 4. Kxg3 Qe3 5. Qxe3 Rxe3 6. Kf4 K:f6 7. K:e3+-
I think White is better here
1.Rxf6 wins 😉 easy pice
About the variant:
1. Rxf6(1) Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kh3(2) Rh1+ 4. Kxg3 Qe3(3) 5. Qxe3 Rxe3 6. Kf4(4) K:f6 7. K:e3+-
————————————(1) 1. Rxf6? (1. Ne6+!) Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kxg3 Qe3+ 4. Qxe3 R8xe3+ 5. Kh2 Kxf6 6. Nxd5+ Kg5 7. Nxe3 Rxe3 8. Rc2 Re7 9. Kg3 Kxf5 10. Rc4 Rd7 11. Kf2 Kg5 12. Ke3 h4 13. d4 Kg4 14. Kf2 f5 15. d5+ f4 16. Rd4 Rd8 and black has a better position, but some work to do.
(2) 3. Kh3? (3. Kxg3) Rh1+ 4. Kxg3 Qe3+ 5. Qxe3 Rxe3+ 6. Rf3 Rxf3+ 7. Kxf3 Kxf6 8. Nxd5+ Kxf5 9. Nxc7 Ra1 10. Nd5 Rxa4 11. Nxb6 Rb4 12. Nc4 a4 with decisive advantage for black.
(3) 4… Qxf6! 5. Qxf6+ Kxf6 6. Nxd5+ Kg5 7. Kf3 Re5 8. Nc3 Rxf5+ 9. Ke3 Rxf2 10. Kxf2 Ra1 11. Ke3 h4 12. Nd5 Rxa4 13. Nxc7 Ra2 14. d4 Rxg2 15. d5 h3 16. d6 Rg1 17. Kf2 h2 18. d7 Rd1 19. Nd5 and white lost its horse and the game.
(4) The King cant go to f4 because there is the Horse. So, if we correct 6.Kf4 (for 6. Rf3, unique), the variant will follow like (2).
Since there are lots of good possibilities (only some refuted), can we have the answer please?
The quizzes are great and it will be great if the answers are provided a day or two after they are posted.
Thanks
Look at the following analysis. Isn’t it obvious that it is generated by a computer ?
1. Rxf6(1) Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kh3(2) Rh1+ 4. Kxg3 Qe3(3) 5. Qxe3 Rxe3 6. Kf4(4) K:f6 7. K:e3+-
————————————(1) 1. Rxf6? (1. Ne6+!) Re1+ 2. Kh2 g3+ 3. Kxg3 Qe3+ 4. Qxe3 R8xe3+ 5. Kh2 Kxf6 6. Nxd5+ Kg5 7. Nxe3 Rxe3 8. Rc2 Re7 9. Kg3 Kxf5 10. Rc4 Rd7 11. Kf2 Kg5 12. Ke3 h4 13. d4 Kg4 14. Kf2 f5 15. d5+ f4 16. Rd4 Rd8 and black has a better position, but some work to do.
The last comment is marvelous. Computers spoiled everything about chess. Chess is practically finished. Computers simply took over. Look at the following incidents :

A top GM like Mickey Adams was demolished by Hydra. We’ll see what Kramnik can do against Fritz, which is 100+ rating points below Rybka.
With all these cheaters on Internet chess sites, there is only one option : Switch to a diffenent game where computers will not be able to excel easily because the game tree expands much faster than chess. GO is a good alternative. I’m telling my son to learn GO. Chess is over.
in a game I would’ve played Ne6. Both 1. … Re6 and fe are just bad for Black. 1. Rxf6 and 1. Nh5 are at least unclear.
BTW lot of effort was put in teaching comps to play chess. If the same effort was put in teaching comps to play GO, humans would’ve been loosing just as bad.
