Can the Kosintseva sisters continue to carry Russia, especially Tatiana?
Can the US finally win a match by a 3-0 score to move into medal contention?
Overall Olympiad
Armenia – Czech Republic
China – France
USA – Russia
3.1 GM Kamsky Gata 2671 – GM Kramnik Vladimir 2729
3.2 GM Onischuk Alexander 2650 – GM Svidler Peter 2743
3.3 GM Nakamura Hikaru 2664 – GM Grischuk Alexander 2719
3.4 GM Kaidanov Gregory 2603 – GM Bareev Evgeny 2701
Gata finally has a chance to play against Kramnik, a player he crushed some years ago in the candidate’s macth. Can he continue to own Kramnik? I have confidence in Onishchuk to hold Svidler. Hikaru has not had a good Olympiad performance so far. How will he do against a super GM like Grischuk? Can Kaidanov hold off Bareev with the Black pieces? If the US loses this match, their medal hopes will suffer greatly. Can they pull off the biggest upset of the Olympiad?
The US is done. They didn’t take this Olympiad too seriously and it shows.
Kamsky Will Beat Kramnik.
After All Gata Kamsky turns 32 today. Happy Bithday Gata!
Haven’t you all noticed? The match display at the chess olympiad web site is all mixed up. How can China be both fighting France and Greece at the same time? Can anybody please notify the web master?
What evidence do you have for the comment that the US “didn’t take this Olympiad too seriously and it shows”?
The US men’s team has medaled in only 2 of the last 9 chess olympiad. Unless you are saying that none of those teams were serious, it seems to me that this year’s men’s squad is at about the level of its recent predecessors.
Your comment may be more valid about the women’s team, since the best woman chessplayer in the US, Susan Polgar, is not there.
For some reason, Russia disappeared altogether on the official display, and American women took the place of American men. How/whom do we notify?
I believe FIDE has a election today!!! thats why the site won’t work…..
The US is not the strongest team, all the preparation, grit and wonderful captaining can’t make up for that.
You don’t ‘crush’ people or ‘own’ them in chess. This trashy talk is better for low level basketball. Show some respect to the opposing players!
Of course you crush and own your opponent. You must also hate your opponent. Otherwise you get a grandmaster draw.
“Of course you crush and own your opponent. You must also hate your opponent.”
What about “win with grace”?
“What about “win with grace”?”
If you attack too much then maybe grace can help you. If you’re too passive maybe a little less grace. Grace helps you in that you can adjust the amount you have to get a balanced game.
“When is the United States going to send a home-grown Olympic team to to the chess Olympiads?”
You’re probably not home-grown either, so what? We love you, too.
“To call this gang of mercenaries who are playing for “us” an American team is bogus.”
These imported players were invited and sent to Italy by HOME-GROWN USCF officials.
USCF and CFC will do anything for a shot at a medal, even sedn “mercenaries”, instead of local amateurs.
When fighting breaks out in Turin, you’ll be glad that the USCF has hired mercenaries. The skinny US chess team will take off their shirts, untie all the ribbons that keep their muscles tiny, and then you’ll get ripped mercenaries that’ll save all the chess players of the world from Topalov and his hired cronies.
