IM Amon Simutowe is leading the EUWE Stimulans with the score of 7 out of 8 with 6 wins and only 2 draws! The other magnificent result comes from the legendary Nona Gaprindashvili. She is in a tie for third with 5 out of 8. There is only 1 round left where the leader Simutowe will face the second place GM Barua. Nona will face Wang who is also tied for 3rd. It is the best final round match anyone can hope for where the top 4 face each other. I am confident that Amon will be a GM in the very near future.
I have been informed by Dr. Daaim Shabazz of www.thechessdrum.net that Amon did indeed earn his 3rd GM norm. The only thing left is to raise his FIDE rating to 2500 and he will officially be a GM. Congratulations to Amon Simutowe!!

I know that Maurice Ashley was the first black person to earn the GM title. Have there been any others since, or is Amon now the second? 7/8 in this tournament is astounding! Heck of a score! Congrats to him on this performance and earning his final GM norm.
Congratulations to Amon. Actually he by the time I am posting succeeded in drawing his last game against GM Barua. This means he won the tournament, I believe so.
Proud and moved.
All the best
AB

Go Amon…Way to go!
It’s been a long journey…Hey but no resting…Keep on keeping on
Congrats Amon. This is great news for a country like ours.
Hope the country will be able to recognise this great achievement and encourage other youngsters to follow your lead.
