Shirov is my man! Way to go!
And I thought Shirov was over the hill.. good that I was wrong..
Shirov plays exciting chess and isn’t afraid of losing. We should have more players like him!!

I was there.
Mamedyarov started well, but could not repeat last year’s exploit; in all 3 tournaments he started to panic in round 7 and spoiled almost everything.
Grishchuk should have been first in the main one, time run out when he had mate in 3 in last round, last game of tournament, only got draw: in fact, justice, he won too many games (in all 3 tourneys) with one second left on clock.
Anand and Polgar only played the main one, too passive; Anand’s kind and fast draw against Karpov was not ambitious at all; Judith also got a bit tired, lack of energy seemed to me.
Ivantchuk was very good, he won 8.5/9 the rapid one (3min+2sec/move), that was a fantastic day for him, and only lost one against Shirov in the main tourney, round 8: Shirov’s Kngiht move was just splendid.
Just after winning Shirov said to me and my neighbour it was the first time ever he could clearly win a game against Ivantchuk.
You could feel in his eyes that he was proud and achieved something great.
