1. Rh8+ +-
Seems pretty easy to decide what you want to do- get the queen in at that king, which means that h6 needs to be cleared, but needs to be cleared forcefully.
1. Rh8 Kh8 (Kg7 2.Qh6#)
2. Qh6 Kg8
3. Rf8#
We must still be celebrating the 4th of July. More fireworks! Main line goes:
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh6+ Rh7
3. Rxf8+ Bxf8
4. Qxf8+ Qg8
5. Nxg6#
Lucymarie
Rxh8+, Qh6+, Nxg6+, Rxf8+, my looking ahead doesn’t go forward more than that but it has to work.
1. Rh8+ Kxh8 (1. … Kg7 2. Qh6#)
2. Qh6+ Rh7 (2. … Kg8 3. Rxf8#)
3. Nxg6+ Kg8
4. Rxf8+ Bxf8
5. Qxf8#
1.Rh8+ Kxh8 2.Qh6+ and mate on the next move 1-0
1. Rh8+…KxR ( if Kg7..Qh6 mate)
2. Qh6+…Rh7 ( or Kg8 )
3. Rxf8 mate
Works like clockwork.
1. Rh8+ Kxh8 (1. … Kg7 2. Qh6#)
2. Qh6+ Rh7 (2. … Kg8 3. Rxf8#)
3. Rxf8+ Bxf8
4. Qxf8 Qg8
5. Nxg6#
1…Rh8+ 2.Kxh8 Qh5+ 3.Rh6 Cxg5+ 4.Kg8 Rxf8+ 5.Bxf8+ Qxf8++
Armando Neto-Brasil
hello. are the notations under the picture the answer to the puzzles? thanks.
1. Rh8+ if Kg7 then,
2. Qh6#
or
1. Rh8+ KxR
2. Qh6+ Kg8
3. RxR#
or
1. Rh8+ KxR
2. Qh6+ Rh7
3. RxR Qg8
4. Ng6#
Missed the bishop in my previous post…but here is one more line that I think works:
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh6+ Rh7
3. Rxf8+ Bxf8
4. Qxf8+ Qg8
5. Nxg6#
1 Rh8 + !!
I guess it’s:
1. Rh8+, KxR;
2. Qh6+, Rh7;
3. Rxf8+,BxR;
4. Qxf8+,Qg8;
5. Nxg6++
1.Rh8 2.Qh6+ 3.Rxf8
Dear Backspace: The notation used is called “FEN”. It is merely an accurate representation of the position, but it does not in any way
give an answer to the puzzle. FEN is an acronym for Forsyth-Edwards-Notation, which was developed back sometime in the 19th century. I’ll bet there is a Wikipedia article on it. Now with computers, and chess programs, you can copy and paste the FEN notation for a position into a .txt file, change the extention from .txt to .fen, and then load the position into a chess program like Winboard.

Rh8+
White needs to sacrifice a rook.
Rh8+ Kxh8
Qh6+ Rh7
Ng6+ Kg8
Rf8+ Bxf8
Qxf8#
1. Rh8+ Kxh8
2. Qh6+ ..? ( Rh7 or Kg8?)
3. Rh6+
I have a strong doubt that I am missing something here
1 Rh8+ Kxh8
2 Qh6+ Rh7
3 Rxf8+ Qg8
4 Nxg6#
Best regards from Hungary
1. Rh8+ Kxh8 2. Qh6+ Rh7 3. Rxf8+ Bxf8 4. Qxf8+ Qg8 5. Nxg6#
1.Rh8+ Win
1.Rh8+! starts the winning sequence. 1… Kxh8 is forced, then: 2.Qh6+ Rh7 3.Rxf8+ Bxf8 4.Qxf8+ Qg8 5.Nxg6#
Beelze
1.Rh8+
if 1…Kg7
2.Qh6#
if 1…Kxh8
2.Qh6+
now,
a) 2…Kg8
3.Rxf8#
b)
2…Rh7
3.Rxf8+ Bxf8
4.Qxf8+ Qg8
5.Nxg6#
Rh8+! wins for White (as fare as I can see).
Solution:
1.Rh8+ Kxh8 (1…Kg7 2.Qh6#)
2.Qh6+ Rh7 (2…Kg7 3.Rf8#)
3.Rf8+ Bxf8 (3…Qg7 4.Nxg6#)
4.Qxf8+ Qg8
5.Nxg6#
Yeah
1. Rh8+ K:h8 2. Qh6+ and 3. R:f8#
or
1. Rh8+ Kg7 2. Qh6#
Looks simple.
1. Rh8+ Kxh8 (1… Kg7 2. Qh6#)
2. Qh6+ Rh7 (2… Kg8 3. Rxf8#)
3. Rxf8+ Bxf8
4. Qxf8+ Qg8
5. Nxg6#
Rh8+ Kxh8
Qh6+ Rh7
Rxf8+ Bxf8
Qxf8+ Qg8
Nxg6#
