After producing a number of Grand Masters over the years, Indian chess has witnessed the arrival of a new prospect. Hetul Shah might be just 9-years-old but he has already become the youngest chess player ever to outclass a Grand Master.
A couple of decades back, one prodigy took the world of 64 squares by storm and the genius of Vishy Anand grew to conquer the globe.
And, the recent years saw another champion in the making. Parimarjan Negi has beaten many stalwarts, broken many records and won many laurels at a tender age.
But now there’s a new kid on the block. He might be just 9, but Hetul Shah has already made an audacious arrival in the world of Kings, Queens and Pawns.
44 moves, checkmate and a sensational win. Shah created history on the board. His stunning victory over Kazakh Nurlan Ibrayev made the wonderkid the youngest ever to beat a Grand Master.
When other kids of his age struggle to understand the game, the fourth standard student from Ahmedabad has mastered the mindgame.
The young boy might have just begun his journey in the world of chequered boards and black and white pieces, but his sensational victory over the Kazakh GM surely makes Hetul an exciting prospect for the future.
