18th April to 1st May in Hotel Sumarice, Kragujevac
Report by Chessdom

Chess club “Radnicki” and City of Kragujevac are organizing the 2010 Serbia Chess Championship for men, which will be held from 18th April to 1st May in Hotel “Sumarice”, Kragujevac. 14 players will compete in the round-robin tournament for the title of the national champion and 4000 EUR prize fund. In addition, each player will be provided with 130-210 EUR for expenses, depending on the rating.

2008 and 2009 champion GM Ivan Ivanisevic will not be defending the crown, and other high rated players, like GM Bojan Vuckovic, GM Robert Markus and GM Mihajlo Stojanovic, have canceled participation.

Players:

GM Perunovic Milos 2574 (champion in 2005 and 2007)
GM Sedlak Nikola 2570
GM Solak Dragan 2553
GM Damljanovic Branko 2550 (champion 1991, joint in 2001, and 2006)

The complicated Statute and problems within the Executive Board are hindering the functioning of the Serbian Chess Federation. The Championship was still in doubt only weeks before the scheduled start, but the owner of Hotel “Sumarice” and Kragujevac City Council once again jumped in to save the event. The 2009 Championship was also held in Kragujevac and sponsored by the same institutions.
