School visited by renown chess players

Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian visited the chess class at the PGC during their morning chess class. He is the personal friend of Shiva Maharaj, who is one of the teachers of our chess enrichment program. GM Akobian was the trainer of the United States Olympic Chess Team in 2010 and continues to be highly respected throughout America and the world.

On another occasion, Grandmaster Victor Mikhalevski came with Shiva to visit the Wednesday morning chess class at the PGC. He also is a personal friend of Shiva’s and in the United States for several national tournaments. GM Mikhalevski was a participant and the Bronze Medal winner for the Israeli Olympic Chess Team at the 2010 Olympiad. Victor came to Chicago to offer a workshop with Shiva for advanced tournament players. He is also internationally recognized and respected as one of the top Grandmasters in the world.
